How does species identification work?
When you photograph a plant or animal, folio sends the image to an AI model that identifies the species and generates a watercolor portrait. Results typically appear within a few seconds. Identification works best with clear, well-lit photos where the subject is the main focus.
What is a Portrait, and who owns it?
Each encounter generates a unique watercolor portrait of the species you met. Portraits are generated by folio and are owned by us, but you are free to save and share them for personal, non-commercial use. No two portraits are exactly alike.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. To cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone → tap your name → Subscriptions → folio → Cancel Subscription. You can continue to use your subscription until the end of the billing period.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?
Open folio, navigate to the subscription screen, and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are unable to process refunds directly.
Is my location data stored?
Your approximate location at the time of each encounter is stored as part of your encounter record, so you can see where you met each species. Location is only accessed when you use the identification feature — never in the background. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my account and data?
To delete your account and all associated data, email us at folio.foraging@gmail.com with your request. We will process all deletion requests within 30 days.
The identification result seems wrong. What should I do?
You can submit feedback directly from the result screen using the thumbs-down icon. For best results, try retaking the photo in better lighting with the subject clearly centered. You can also email us with the species you encountered and we'll look into it.
